What Are The Standards For PCB Thickness?
2024/09/29

PCB (Printed Circuit Board) in the manufacturing process, the hole (i.e., through the entire thickness of the conductive holes in the board) of the copper thickness standard and the finished product copper thickness composition is a very important part of the PCB as the basis for electronic products, the quality of which directly affects the reliability and stability of the product. PCB hole copper thickness standards and finished copper thickness composition of the understanding is very necessary.

PCB Hole Copper Thickness Standard
PCB hole copper thickness standard usually refers to the thickness of the copper foil of the hole wall, and its standard is based on industry regulations and production requirements to determine. Generally speaking, the hole copper thickness standard will be different in different PCB manufacturing process, but in most cases, the thickness of copper foil on the hole wall should meet the following requirements.
1. Inner layer holes: the thickness of copper foil is usually required to be between 15um and 25um.
2. Outer layer holes: the thickness of copper foil is usually required to be between 20um and 30um.

This requirement is based on the PCB manufacturing process and practical application considerations and determine, can effectively ensure that the PCB conductive properties and mechanical strength.

General Standard PCB Board Copper Thickness:Common standard thicknesses include 1 0Z (35um), 2 0Z (70um), 3 0Z (105um), 4 OZ (140um) and 6 OZ (210um). Of these, 1 OZ copper thickness is the most common choice.
Standard PCB board copper thickness for high current applications: For applications that require high current, a common choice is 2 0Z (70um) or higher copper thickness.
Standard PCB board copper thickness for high frequency applications: For applications that require the transmission of high frequency signals, a common choice is a copper thickness of 1 0Z (35um) or thinner to minimise signal transmission losses.

Ucreate can produce heavy copper pcb up to 15OZ, the board material we usded are Al Base, Cu Base, Fe Base, Ceramic Base; If any specail, contact us for futher discuss.

Finished Copper Thickness Composition
The copper thickness of the finished PCB usually includes the copper thickness on the surface of the board, the copper thickness inside the board and the copper thickness of the hole wall. The composition of these three has an important impact on the performance of the PCB.

1. Outer Copper Thickness: refers to the thickness of copper foil covering the surface of the PCB. In general, the board surface copper thickness in 10z (35um) to 3oz (105um) between different electronic products on the board surface copper thickness requirements vary.

2. Inner Copper Thickness: refers to the thickness of the inner layer of copper foil of the PCB board, the copper foil thickness of the board after the end of the press-fit plate making is the in-board copper thickness.

3. Hole wall copper thickness: refers to the hole in the wall of the copper foil thickness, is an important indicator of PCB manufacturing. As mentioned earlier, in accordance with the PCB hole copper thickness standard, usually requires the hole wall copper foil thickness between 15um to 30um.

Reasonable composition of the above three for the PCB conductivity, thermal performance and mechanical strength have an important impact, a qualified PCB must ensure that the three reasonable composition.
