On 13 October, Zollner Elektronik AG, the market leader in European EMS suppliers, issued a press release stating that it is opening a new manufacturing site on the east coast of Tunisia (northern Africa) and that, with the new plant in Tunisia, it will be able to expand its production capacity and resources in the medium to long term to produce PCBs and electronic modules in an industrial environment geared towards the European market (EMEA).

Production will start in early 2023 in a 2,500 m² temporarily rented production space in Enfida, Tunisia, which will employ around 100 people; at the same time, the construction of a building for the company's own production has begun, with the first step of creating around 10,000 m² of production space, which is expected to be completed in 2024.

Martin Eisenhart, Senior Vice President of Zollner's Electronics Business Unit, said: "The investment in Enfield is a strategic expansion of our best cost country options in the European market. With the two-phase implementation, we have achieved a fast start-up of production and thus a short-term solution to grow with our customers. The long-term investment in a total area of approximately 10 hectares provides enough space for the necessary future expansion to be able to offer our customers competitive solutions in the long term."

The location on the east coast of Tunisia represents an expansion of Zollner's production capacity with good logistical connections to Europe. In addition, it provides the necessary resources, trained professionals and expertise applicable to the production of electronic products to address prevailing bottlenecks and to continue serving customers according to the globally harmonised Zollner quality standards in line with their needs.
